Skype
I just installed Skype. If you don't know what it is, check it out - it's basically a voice (and type) instant messenger. No crazy new concept, but it's claim to fame is that the quality is supposedly much better than even a phone line. I have only tested it for a few minutes on my home network and I was shocked by the quality. There was not much to the install - no special mic calibration stuff or anything, but it seems to work great! There have been a TON of downloads - it's apparently taking this geeky world by storm. It's made by the same people who put together a fairly notorious software you might have heard of... Kazaa. However, they insist there is no spyware in this product and my brief research on messageboards, etc didn't raise any red flags. Besides, you use Spybot: S&D, right? You should. Anyway, if you check out Skype, let me know your username - mine is "Lyndal".
